A workshop for those interested in enhancing their ability to perceive, experience, and understand living processes. By exploring the very beginnings of human life, we will see that matter is formed from congealed movement. By following the processes that form the human embryo, we will shed some light onto such themes as healthy development, the purpose and wisdom of the human form, and, indeed, the very meaning of human existence.
This conference brings Dr. Jaap van der Wal from Holland together with Spacial Dynamics founder Jaimen McMillan to co-create a Goetheanistic approach to this mystery of mysteries. Dr. Jaap van der Wal's presentations are exquisite examples of artistic metamorphology. Jaimen McMillan will lead the participants in Bothmer Gymnastics and Spacial Dynamics to experience the pulsing interplay between space and the creation and re-creation of the physical body.
This conference begins at 7:30 pm on July 10th and concludes at 12:00 pm on July 12th and is open to the public.
Level I graduates in Spacial Dynamics will receive Level II credit. Tuition is $300.
Please contact admissions@spacialdynamics.com or 518-695-6377 for more information and to register.

Movement and What's New in SDI
Finish at 6pm
From the archetype of the circle, through cosmic spirals, and weaving columns, dances trace the history of human development. In this conference , we will learn and explore fun and dynamic dances from different eras that point to the relationship of the community, the individual, and the space that surrounds and permeates every movement and form. Ancient sword dances, May Pole dances, folk and court dances of the Renaissance, play party dances of the pioneer days, social dances of the Victorian era, jazz in the Ragtime era and the Harlem Renaissance — all offer the experience of a time, place, and culture that can enliven the history classroom as well as the playground, gym, or ballroom. This journey through a progression of dances will be a moving history lesson. We will see that a dance didn't come out of society, but rather each dance formed the very social, civic, and spiritual possibilities at a given time. Moving through the past into the present may help us better dance into the future. Come, let's dance!
This course is open to everyone. SDI graduates will receive Level II credit. We will begin at 7:30 on the first night and conclude at 12:00 noon on the last day. Tuition for this course is $500.

A Spacial Dynamics® Approach to Steiner's Six Subsidiary Exercises
Rudolf Steiner, the initiator of Anthroposophy, presented six steps as a basis for setting off on a path of self exploration and self development. Although these meditative suggestions are widely known, many have difficulty in practicing them. Besides the challenge of finding quiet amidst the distractions of every day life, another reason for this difficulty may be that these practices are being done incompletely. It is often overlooked that these indications include very subtle movement exercises.
Jaimen McMillan will present an approach to these meditative practices that imbues them with the life that they were meant to have. Applying exercises from the discipline of Spacial Dynamics, we will learn to create and perceive finer and finer movements. The finest movement is the point of dynamic stillness. Using this enhanced sense of refined movement, we will explore the progression of these steps and see that they proceed along a path, and that walking that path is an important part of our development. For beginners and those more advanced, this course promises to bring your meditative life into movement. The cost for the course is $ 95.

Bothmer. There was a time when you didn't know what these exercises were trying to say to you. If they speak to you now, come, and become fluent. For years many of you have been clamoring for a chance to steep yourselves in these elusive exercises, learn them all by heart, and even have a video of yourselves getting corrections in the Bothmer exercises to take home with you in the end to practice. Now you can.
This course is open to graduates of the Spacial Dynamics Institute who have reached at least a Level I. The hard work you did on the Bothmer exercises every day over a period of at least 5 years has brought you within the reach of certification as a Bothmer Gymnast.
"What if I want to improve my ability in the Bothmer exercises and tap into the meditative quality that comes from moving over long periods of time in silence?" Come. We will. Perhaps you DO want both the challenge of improving the quality of your movement and having your movement put to the test. Now you can have it. We have packaged this pair of advanced intensive modules in twin courses in such a way that you can go through all the Bothmer exercises in the fall (November 11-15), go home and practice for a couple of months, and come back (February 6-10) to deepen your ability and understanding, get the finishing touches and, if you choose, take a shot at the certification exam. Graduates will receive Level II credit for this course. This Bothmer Certification is a prerequisite for proceeding onto Level III.
We will start at 7:30 pm on the first night and conclude at 12:00 noon on the last day. Tuition for each session is $500. You may also pay a lump sum of $1400 for any three graduate sessions. For those of you who enjoyed the course so much and have asked to take it again, you may attend at half-price. Please prepay tuition by check made out to SDI or by credit card and send to the address above. Practical information about travel and lodging is attached. Please return your Registration Form and Course Payment for Bothmer Course I to Kay no later than October 15th.

Every society tries to sell the idea that there is one particular way to look. Those who have, or can attempt to buy these characteristics are promised position, privilege, and power. Our children look to us to introduce them to the wonders and beauty of the world. By drawing their attention to their physical bodies too early, we are blinding them to wonder by telling them that they are one of the "beauties of the world". Even well meant praise can become a prison. Many people who suffer from depression, nervousness, sleeplessness, chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia as youths and adults were often captive in prisons of perfection as children. In this course we'll take a good look at the phenomenon of body image. We will explore ways to create a new idea of beauty, thus unlocking new personal possibilities, and even a new social model.

"To be swept off your feet." "To lose the earth beneath your feet." "To be weak-kneed." "To not have a leg to stand on." These, and many well-worn phrases, show clearly that the feet and the legs play supportive roles in physical, as well as emotional, social and personal development. In this course, we will study the structure and proper positions of the feet and the legs, as well as explore new movement and expressive and sensory possibilities. We will study examples of injuries, illnesses and pathological conditions that entrap, limit, and even shackle a person. We will see how the improbable and labile architecture of our limbs can provide an enlivening basis for balance and movement, and perhaps, most importantly, for being able to: " Take that next step!"

Never before has a growing child been exposed to as muchsensory input. Never before have children been able to makeless sense of it! More and more children, youth, and adultssimply tune out, or turn off, adopting a frighteningly vacant"ain't nobody home" stare. Others imitate this bombardment ofstimulation by bouncing off the walls, acting out with nonsensical behavior, or even exploding senselessly at socially inappropriate times. In this course, we will study thephenomenon of sense perception, and the developmental challenges that children face when theyare not able to integrate sensory impressions that they receive.
There is hope! We can develop a new understanding and use of the senses themselves. We cantrain ourselves to use our senses to perceive in ways that enhance interest, interaction, and exchange. In fact, building on the basic five senses, and the seven senses that Rudolf Steiner supplemented, we will dare to add another three senses, adding up to 15 senses in all. The pointbeing, that by using the entire spectrum of senses that we have available to us, we may just be ableto make some sense out of the world around us. Most importantly, by integrating this whole spectrumof senses, the developing child, as well as for the overtaxed adult may be able to connect to theworld in new ways. Join us. Come to your senses!

"Sit up straight!" " Chest out, stomach in!" Not only do these over-used admonitions not work, they are fundamentally dangerous. The very few who do follow these rules often suffer from being physically sore, socially stiff, and developmentally stuck.
In this course we will present new approaches to dynamic posture, caring carriage, and grace-filled movement. This course has been designed for parents, class teachers, movement therapists, and back sufferers alike. The participants will learn developmental postural sequences using touch, imaginations, rhythms, exercises, physics and even meta-physics to create ever widening spaces into which the individual can move with ease from the cradle and away from the cane. Come learn how to stand up for yourself. Learn ways to help your children, your patients, and yourselves get "Back to Health."

In this lively and interactive course we will take to heart the modern frightening phenomenon of the loss of ease in breathing. Asthma, wheezing, respiratory disorders, sleep apnea, snoring, even the inability to come to rest and find rhythm in daily life all show us that we are a society that is out of breath.
Teaming up to combine over 60 years of experience in treating breathing disorders, Dr. John Takacs D. O. and Jaimen McMillan, RMT, will address anatomical, medical, exercise, emotional, spacial and meditative aspects of breathlessness.
If you are a parent of a child who suffers from asthma, come learn how to team up with your doctor and movement therapist to plot a course towards your child'sleading a fuller life. If you are challenged by breathing difficulties yourself, or are an educator looking for ways to help your students, or a therapist looking for newtechniques for your patients, or just feel that you need a "second wind", come learn how to move and create the spaces you need to "catch your breath."

"To Sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;" These words of Shakespeare's are more haunting today than before. Sleep disorders plague over one-third of the American population. Insomnia, snoring, naps, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome. sleepwalking, bedwetting, and nightmares are just some of the topics we will cover in this course. Whether you are challenged by sleep disorders yourself or have children, loved ones, or clients who suffer from patterns of sleep disturbance, come join us as we use Spacial Dynamic movements, breathing, and quieting exercises to find ways of resting you never dreamed of.

When we begin life in the womb and as infants, reflexes serve the role of helping to stay alive through pre-ordained movements. In healthy development, these reflective movements weave together overtime with acquired movements to form habits and patterns which allow us not only to re-act, but to act freely.
Through the lack of healthy movement opportunities in modern day stationary life styles, children are not weaving the threads of their innate movement patterns together in ways that make sense to them. Many problems in school (ADHD, behavior, learning, social) have spatial components that leave the child un-centered, at loose ends... a victim of an onslaught of sensory bombardment and subsequent automated, yet unconscious reactions. Come join us as we study the reflexes, their purposes, how to recognize them in their disguises, and how to coordinate them into movement skills that help children conduct their lives in a way that makes sense.
